If you’re considering your first fine line or micro realism tattoo, it’s completely normal to have questions. For many people, it’s the unknown that makes them hesitate. My aim is to make the whole experience as relaxed, enjoyable, and transparent as possible, so you’ll know exactly what to expect from your first enquiry through to your fully healed tattoo.
Step 1 – Getting in Touch
Most clients begin by sending over a few inspiration images, Pinterest ideas, or photos they’ve saved. Some people know exactly what they want, including the size and placement, while others simply have an idea or concept they’d like to develop.
Don’t worry if you haven’t decided on every detail—that’s what I’m here for. The only thing that’s helpful to have in mind is roughly how much space you’d like your tattoo to cover, as this helps me advise on what will work best.
Step 2 – Your Quote
Once I have an idea of your design, I’ll provide a quote.
If your request is straightforward, I’ll be able to give you an exact price. For more bespoke or evolving designs, I’ll provide an estimated upper limit and confirm the final price once the artwork has been completed.
Step 3 – Booking Your Appointment
When you’re happy to go ahead, we’ll arrange a date and time for your appointment.
A booking fee secures your appointment and covers both the time reserved exclusively for you and the design work completed before your session. The remaining balance is paid on the day of your tattoo.
After booking, you’ll receive your client forms along with detailed information about how to prepare for your appointment and how to care for your tattoo afterwards to achieve the best possible healing.
Step 4 – Your Custom Design
During the week leading up to your appointment, I’ll create your bespoke tattoo design.
You’ll receive your design to review before your appointment, with up to two redraws or revisions included if you’d like any changes. If part of your design would benefit from being freehand drawn directly onto the skin to better suit your anatomy, I’ll discuss this with you beforehand so there are no surprises.
Step 5 – Your Tattoo Appointment
When you arrive, I’ll have your stencil prepared in a couple of size options so we can compare what looks best. We can also adjust the size if needed.
We’ll spend plenty of time finding the perfect placement. There’s no rush, and we can move the stencil as many times as necessary—even if you decide a completely different location works better than your original idea.
Once we’re both happy, the stencil is applied and left to dry while I complete my setup and you finish a quick consent form.
Step 6 – The Tattoo Process
Once everything is ready, it’s time to begin your tattoo.
I first work carefully over the stencil to establish all of the important lines, shapes, and details before gradually completing the piece. My style focuses on delicate fine line and micro realism tattooing, so most clients describe the sensation as feeling more like tiny scratches or gentle vibrations than they expected.
Everyone experiences tattooing differently, but many people are pleasantly surprised by how comfortable the process is.
Step 7 – Aftercare
When your tattoo is finished, we’ll take a final look together to make sure you’re completely happy with everything.
In most cases, I’ll apply a clear protective second skin dressing before talking you through your aftercare instructions in detail. Proper aftercare plays an important role in achieving the best healed result, and you’ll also have written guidance to take away with you.
Step 8 – Healing & Complimentary Touch-Ups
Around four weeks after your appointment, once your tattoo has fully healed, I’ll ask you to send me a clear photograph so I can assess how it’s settled.
Fine line tattoos occasionally benefit from a small touch-up once healed, which is completely normal. If I feel any areas would benefit from being refined, softened, or enhanced, I’ll invite you back for a complimentary touch-up appointment. This allows me to perfect any tiny details and ensure your tattoo looks its very best. This must be within 4-12 weeks of your initial tattoo.
